The first thing your feet touch in the morning. Thick cotton tufts in wide stripes of burnt sienna and oat, deep enough to sink into and dense enough to soak up the water.

Sienna is the red earth of our palette, the color of old terracotta. It warms up a white bathroom and keeps a stone one from feeling cold.

It goes in the washing machine. Wash it cold, dry it low, and the pile comes back.
