A 6 × 9 rug covers 54 square feet, more than twice the floor space of a sofa. Whatever color it is, the rest of the room has to work with it. So choose it first, then pick the wood, linen and towels to match.
Why wool
Wool looks deeper in late light. Printed polyester looks flat.
Plenty of rugs under $300 are polypropylene printed with an old pattern. They photograph well and look thin in a sunny room, and the pile flattens where the chairs stand. Ours are wool, cotton and stone, from $110 to $495.

A green that goes with everything
I was worried green would take over the study. It doesn't. It looks sage in the morning and almost khaki at night. The carved border is subtle and really nicely done.

The dog approved before I did
Got the 5 x 8 for our living room. Rolled it out, went to get coffee, came back and the dog had claimed it. The color is darker and warmer in person than on my screen, which I actually prefer. Low enough that the door clears it.
